SMIJS Visit PTP Port, 18 May 06 (Thurs)

Dear all

SMI JS will be organising a study tour to PTP (Port of Tanjung Pelepas) as part of our effort to help the country to promote local port to the SMI community. This is the 2nd visit, organised by our Association since March 2002.

As we aware, PTP is working very hard toward increasing its capacity to handle 8 million TEUs annually once construction work on berths nine and ten are completed in the 3rd quarter of 2006. On top of that, the 400 ha Pelepas Free Zone (PFZ) and the setting up of Flextronics (with 12000 workforce), BWM, JST 100 million project and CIBA are among the key project in their pipeline.

Apart from PTP, Senai Airport will also be there to brief us on their latest development in establishing the Southern Cargo hub.

As such, with the visit, we hope to achieve the following objectives:

Update on the latest development on PTP / Senai Cargo
Understand the goods movement system
Build closer rapport between SMI operators and PTP / Senai
Clarify issues on PTP/Senai procedures (billing, Inspection etc)

Tentative Itinerary:

 8.00am  - Assembly at Perling Mall
 8.30am  - Depart to PTP
 9.30am  - Presentation
    *Port of Tanjung Pelepas
    *Pelepas Free Zone
    *Senai Air Cargo
 11.00am - Port Tour / End
 
Admission is FREE by registration only, courtesy from Hock Sang Travel. As the seats are limited, each company is allowed max 2 person. We strongly urged SMI businessmen to participate as it will be an opportunity to understand the “Trans-shipment Hub” potential of PTP.
